The Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology (FUNDECYT) and the Science and Technology Park Foundation of Extremadura (PCTEx) merged on 1st January 2013 to form a new foundation that brings together both the goals and purposes of both entities, such as their human capital, activities and know-how, becoming a key interface body in the region to integrate the science, technology, research and innovation system of the region.

As a result of the merger between FUNDECYT and PCTEX has led to the birth of a new Foundation, FUNDECYT-PCTEx, based on the European and International experience that FUNDECYT has gained since 1995 and the deep understanding PCTEx has about the business realities of the science, technology and innovation system of Extremadura, which started its operations in 2009.
